League Q & A

Posted by Pasadena Southwest Little League at Jan 15, 2014 2:10PM PST

Question: Can I still signup for baseball this spring?

Answer: Teeball and AA (ages 5-8) are still wide open – contact League President David Mathias (pswllpresident@gmail.com) if you wish to register your player for Teeball or AA (ages 5-8). AAA (ages 9-11) is partially open, so please contact our League President as a few players could be added. Majors (primarily 11-12 year olds) is closed, but we are assembling a wait list…please contact the League President.

Question: My player was sick this week and missed tryouts — what do we do?

Answer: If you signed up for TeeBall, no need to tryout. But we need to make some general rating for most of the 6-10 year olds if possible for the AA and AAA Divisions. Please contact League President David Mathias pswllpresident@gmail.com regarding scheduling an alternative trout.

Question: When will I know what team my player is on?

Answer: Majors (11-12 yr olds) and AAA (9-11 yr olds) do a formal draft of players to insure parity in teams.

The Majors draft was held Wed, Jan 15th — the 2014 Majors Managers will contact players usually as early as a week after the draft regarding being part of their teams. Practices can start as early as the end of this week. Don’t panic if you hear nothing through the weekend as the Mangers need to balance work/coaching etc to provide your players with the optimum experience on the field. Assume at least 2 practices a week.

The AAA Minors draft is the week of the Jan 20th — the number of teams is still being worked-out as of this writing. Usually by Feb 1 your player will be notified by a AAA Manager regarding being part of the team, and possible practice schedule. Assume 1-2 practices a week.

For AA and TeeBall — Teams are assigned, and that assignment may not be made until Feb 1 (and even mid-Feb for TeeBall). Once we hit February 1, we will send out another information email regarding AA and TeeBall.

Thank you all for reading and being part of our Happy League!

Reminder – 6 to 8 yr old makeup tryouts tonight, Tuesday the 14th:

Where? Jackie Robinson Park/Center — 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave
6:00-7:00pm: 6-8 year olds (6-YEAR OLDS ONLY IF TRYING OUT FOR AA — IF 6 AND T-BALL, THEN NO NEED TO TRYOUT)

Residency and age verification will be available as well both days. See past “Announcements” on our homepage for what this entails. If you have any questions, please contact President David Mathias pswllpresident@gmail.com

Question: My player was sick this week – do they still have to tryout?

Answer: Not for TeeBall. But we need to make some general rating for most of the 6-10 year olds if possible for the AA and AAA Divisions. Please contact League President David Mathias pswllpresident@gmail.com regarding scheduling an alternative trout.

There’s also underground parking in the Poly parking garage which has an entrance on the west side of Wilson, just below California. Either of these locations has plenty of parking for our purposes. Per Poly’s request, there should be no parking on the street around Poly.

NOTE: “IF” you haven’t signed-up yet (and most have from last year…thank you!), please do. It helps us project how many teams we will need. You can now just “Register” your player and pay later:

Greetings — Tryouts are this Saturday, January 11th at Polytechnic School (Poly) — 1030 E. California Blvd. Make-up tryouts are Monday and Tuesday (Tuesday times have changed…tryouts are from 6-7pm for 6-8 year olds @ Jackie Robinson Field up Fair Oaks — see homepage of www.pswll.com )

T-Ball — T-Ball — T-Ball: If your player is 6 or younger and playing T-Ball, player does NOT tryout…no tryouts for T-Ball. If player is 6 and wants to tryout for AA, then yes needs to tryout.

IMPORTANT for PARKING @ Poly. The field is on Cornell Road, which is one block south of California, east of Lake and between Catalina and Wilson Avenues. The closest parking is an open lot on Cornell at the corner of Wilson. There is room for at least 40 cars. There’s also underground parking in the Poly parking garage which has an entrance on the west side of Wilson, just below California. Either of these locations has plenty of parking for our purposes. Per Poly’s request, there should be no parking on the street around Poly.

See our HOMEPAGEwww.pswll.com — for tryout times per your player’s age.

Equipment: have your player wear cleats, bring a glove and bat, baseball pants, and batting HELMET. If your player is 7 or younger, he/she can certainly wear sneakers, but if 8 years of age or older, the player should be geared up. And feed your player!! :-) Food is good. Bring water…water is good too.

Age/Residency verification will happen at sign-in too (if you haven’t done so already). Instructions for Residency Proof (either Home residency or School Residency) are on our website homepage on the LEFT side under “Links”. You may send questions regarding Residency to League President David Mathias pswllpresident@gmail.com . He is a nice individual. Age residency for now is just a copy of your player’s birth certificate.

NOTE: “IF” you haven’t signed-up yet, rock and roll it:
